There have been a whole host of different cardio workout regimes over the years, from Jazzercise to Billy Blank’s Tae Bo. A few years ago Zumba blended Latin music into the workout model. And more recently Stiletto Strength, which includes strutting in high heels, and Cardio Striptease, which adds a little spice to the workout, have popped onto the scene. However, for all those who have tried one or more of these workout programs and walked away feeling like they wanted something different, now might be the time to check out Nightclub Cardio.
Nightclub Cardio is Upbeat, Even Spontaneous
Originated in Houston last March by Jennifer Brugh, Nightclub Cardio is a combination of aerobics and club dancing. One major difference is that instead of taking place in a gym like most workout routines, Nightclub Cardio takes place in an actual nightclub. The most recent addition opened last month in Los Angeles at Level 3, a nightclub on the third level of the Hollywood and Highland complex.
Here students are shown easy-to-follow moves that incorporate dance and aerobics into a routine that is set to a variety of dance music, all played out by a DJ. Along with the choreographed moves, there are even free dance periods when the class can improvise as well as an occasional “Soul Train” line. The whole event is energizing.
According to the promoters, “Nightclub Cardio is not just about dancing in a nightclub, but is a true cardio workout with easy-to-follow dance steps, jammin’ under laser lights and moving to the music mixes of a live DJ spinning tunes from the 80s, disco era, hip-hop and pop genres.”
February is American Heart Month
While most Americans think of Valentine’s Day when they think of February, this month is not just about that one day. February is American Heart Month, and there’s no better way to celebrate then by getting plenty of exercise in order to give that special someone a great Valentine’s Day gift: more time with the one they love.
The Center for Disease Control (CDC) estimates that one American has a coronary event every 25 seconds. And heart disease is the leading cause of death in the United States. That is why it is important that people choose a healthy diet and get plenty of exercise. And part of any well-rounded exercise program should be a good cardio workout. For a complete overview of individual potential risks as well as links to interactive tools to help guide personal choices, check out the article "February is American Heart Month."
In the meantime, one good way for those living in the Houston or Los Angeles areas to maintain a healthy lifestyle is to be sure to add cardio to their workout. For those in Los Angeles, they can do it every Wednesday at Level 3 for an hour beginning at 6:30p.
